Focus of SCI
Emergency Work Camps
SCI India undertakes work camps in different places at times of natural and manmade catastrophes. Such camps are either held after natural catastrophe to help with relief and rehabilitation work or take the form of preventive work to help avoid catastrophes in future.
Since in principle all SCI activities are of international nature, the exchange of around 1500 volunteers is taken for granted. SCI provides opportunities for both skilled and unskilled volunteers to serve either in its branches or with organizations working for peace and development, which collaborate with SCI. The term for volunteers varies from three months to two years, depending on the skills and needs.
Refugee and Repatriates
SCI has special concern for displaced people who are most often victims of violence. It undertakes relief and rehabilitation work among refugees and has so far been involved with Tibetans, Bangladeshi, Afghani, Iranian refugees and Tamil repatriates.
